Workshop # 1:
Building Your Own Nerdlesque Act, From Start to Finish

Join us for a hands-on workshop where you'll learn how to create your own nerdy burlesque routine!

Are you ready to unleash your inner nerd and create a show-stopping Nerdlesque act? Join Geekenders alum and Newbies instructor Lyssa Strata at Showpony Studio for a hands-on workshop where you'll learn everything you need to know from start to finish. Together, we will examine how to build an act - from inspiration, to choosing music, putting together choreography, and how to incorporate clothing removals. We will also cover how to include storytelling using body language and facial expression, audience connection, and the pros and cons of using props or large costume pieces.

Workshop # 2:
Planning Your Tech

Lighting, sound, props, stunts. How do you design your act? How do you communicate that design, from pitch form to tech rehearsal.
Instructor: Neville Powerbottom
Date: June 22nd, 2025
Time: 10:00am-11:30pm
Cost: $25 (+Eventbrite processing fees)
Ever wondered what is needed to create a really stellar act, from a technical standpoint? Or maybe you're just curious about what happens up there in the tech booth during a show?
Learn best practices and common pitfalls for:
Lighting your act
Editing your audio
Using puppets, masks, and large props
Safe stunts
and other fine details of staging your performance
Knowing how to communicate these details to your tech team can take your performance from great to incredible!
This workshop is primarily lecture-demonstration format, no movement required.

Workshop # 3:
Intro to Floor Work

Join us for an introduction to floor work choreography, for absolute beginners!
Instructor: Lyssa Strata
Date: June 28th, 2025
Time: 10:00am-12:00pm
Cost: $25 (+Eventbrite processing fees)
“How do I get down there? What do I do while I’m down there? …okay now how do I get up?”

Have you ever wanted to incorporate floorwork into your routines? Are you searching for ways to gracefully get down to the floor and then also get back up? Then this is the workshop for you! This workshop will act as a gentle introduction to the world of floorwork, including descending, ascending, and what to do while you are down there! At the end of this workshop, you will have a few different combinations that can be incorporated into future routines.
